The group usually meets on the 3rd Monday afternoon of the month at 2pm at St. Laurence’s Church, Upton. (no meeting in August or December)The church is situated by the large “Red Cow” roundabout on Upton Court Road. It is the oldest building in Slough. It has a portable toilet outside of the building with running water. If coming by car, it is best to park in Upton Court Park (free parking) and then it’s a 5 minute walk to the church.
The meetings often have speakers with a presentation or the group research and present something themselves. The meetings begin at 2pm and finish around 2:45pm-3pm when we all then enjoy tea, coffee, biscuits and a social time of chatting together until around 3:30pm.
St. Laurence’s Church is very hospitable. The Verger opens up for us, provides us with refreshments and stays with us for the meeting and then locks up. The church does not charge us anything for meeting there, but I encourage everyone to give a generous donation to the church at each meeting to cover the cost of the refreshments and also heating in the winter. Half of the church is used for church services and half has a museum within it. The Verger and his wife make home-made jams, chutneys, craft items etc. that you can buy at the meetings.
Every few months we are usually out on a visit to a local place of interest.
New members are welcome. There are 15 to 25 of us attending a typical meeting. If you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the Convenor of the group- Groups Coordinator
