The next monthly U3A meeting will be held at St Andrew’s Methodist Church Hall, Merton Road, Slough, SL1 1QW on Wednesday 16 November from 2-4pm.
How trustworthy are eyewitnesses and how do police officers interview them to get to the truth? Can you tell if someone is lying? Simon Williams should know. He retired from the police in 2009 after 30 years service, which included teaching new recruits how to interview witnesses and suspects. Simon will be explaining all in a talk to be given at the our meeting. Simon is a member of The Magic Circle and his talks reflect his police experience and an interest in magic.
Entry to the meeting is free to members and first-time visitors.

Slough University of the Third Age welcomes retired and semi-retired people – those in their “third age” – who are interested in participating in any of our activities or groups.
Newcomers can find out more about us by coming to one of our monthly meetings. Doors open at 1:30 pm with announcements and speaker starting at 2pm. Towards the end of the meeting refreshments are available, and there is opportunity to find out about activities and planned outings. Parking nearby is available at Hatfield Road multi-storey (£1.10 for 2 hours) or there is free parking in Upton Court Park.

Slough Older Peoples’ Forum. Meets monthly at Kingsway United Reformed Church, Church Street Slough SL1 1SZ.
- Novembers’ Forum meeting is a week earlier than usual on the Thursday 10th November, starting at 10:30. This is the annual information day, with a number of talks and groups on the theme of Health & Safety.

Datchet Players presents Alan Ayckbourn’s Confusions. A set of loosely linked one-act plays, each dealing riotously, but with sharply pointed undertones with human eccentricities and the dilemma of loneliness; a mother trapped in a world of baby-talk, a doomed restaurant dinner, a disastrous village fête and a less-than-successful seduction attempt. Author events at Slough’s Curve Library
- Lucinda Hawksley, biographer and great-great-great-granddaughter of Charles Dickens, is coming to The Curve on Friday 25 November at 6pm, you will need to pay for tickets £6 per person.
- Ben Aaronovitch, screenwriter and author of urban fantasy series Rivers of London, which I’ve read and highly recommend. He’s coming on Saturday 3 December 11am, and you will need to book but tickets are free.

Christmas Special at St Laurence’s Church, Upton, on 12th November. There will be homemade produce including cakes and jams, crafts, decorations, Christmas gifts and more… This annual event raises much-needed funds for the upkeep and restoration of St Laurence’s, which is the oldest building in Slough – dating back at least to Saxon times.
Farnham Common Community Library will host a coffee morning in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society on Saturday 19th November from 10:00 onwards. Victoria Road, SL2 3NL
Hedgerley Film Club will be showing 6 films from November to April; these include “Trumbo” starring Helen Mirren, “The Nice Guys” an action comedy set in 1970s, and “Money Monster” a crime drama starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts. New Members sought by Stoke Poges Players. Every Monday, from 8 to 10 pm, the Stoke Poges Players meet at the Stoke Poges Village Centre in Rogers Lane. The Players, a small amateur dramatic group of approximately 15 members with members ranging from 15 to over 70, have two productions a year.
