The next monthly U3A meeting will be held at St Andrew’s Methodist Church Hall, Merton Road, Slough, SL1 1QW, on Wednesday October 18^th from 2-4pm. Entry to the meeting is free to members as well as to first-time visitors.

We’ll start off with our Annual General Meeting.

After the AGM, we’ll enjoy THE STUFF OF DREAMS with Beryl Beare.“We are such stuff as dreams are made on” (William Shakespeare – The Tempest)Beryl will give a talk explaining some of our most common dreams, rare dreams, recurring dreams and the frightening effect of nightmares.Then it’s YOUR turn! So bring your dream to be interpreted.

Slough University of the Third Age welcomes retired and semi-retired people – those in their “third age” – who are interested in participating in any of our activities or groups.

Family History – after Tom Wigley’s talk on Family History in September, many of our members requested a copy of his slides. Click here to download or view.

Creative Writing Group – After a long summer break the creative writing group has reconvened and are exploring myths and legends as source material for ideas and also writing more Flash Fiction, the popular device that encapsulates and develops an idea in no more than 100 words.

Local History Group will be meeting on Monday, 16th October at the Library in The Curve and not at St. Laurence’s Church as previously.

• Around the World in 80 Washing Lines is a social art project pegging us together, across the planet, irrespective of who, what or where we are. From 7^th to 31st October

Slough Older Peoples’ Forum meets monthly at Kingsway United Reformed Church, Church Street Slough SL1 1SZ. Meetings start at 1:30 pm.

• 19th October — Two topics; “FREE activities for over 50’s”, and “Review of Adult Day Care Services – What questions do the council need to ask?” with Jack Steadman and Sally Kitson from Slough Borough Council.
• 16th November – Marjory Broughton, representing South East England Forum on Ageing. Marjory will be speaking about the work SEEFA is doing at present and the proposal to join with other organisations to represent older people’s interests at Westminster.

Slough Seniors cordially invites you to celebrate International Older People’s Day 2017 on Thursday, October 12 from 11:00am-1:30pm at Brook House, SL1 2TX with a program of talks and activities.

Creative Junction are organising a number of activities themed on William, Caroline and John Herschel, 18th century pioneers who lived and worked in our town.

• Wednesday 25th Oct: Free day trip to Royal Greenwich Observatory, London with coach leaving from and returning to Central Slough. Tickets from the website or any library.

Cippenham Community Carnival Association in co-operation with St. Andrews Shared Church are hosting a McMillan Coffee Morning and Autumn Fayre. Come and enjoy a couple of hours browsing local crafts and eating cake in support of McMillan Nurses. Everyone is welcome to this fun, family friendly event. plenty of free car parking. At St Andrews Shared Church, Washington Drive, Cippenham, SL1 5RE on14 October from 11 AM.

Come together for Black History Month on Saturday 21st October from 11am-3pm at Byron House,  Common Road, Langley, SL3 8TR. Guest speaker: Lydia Simmons, first black female Mayor of Slough with Cllr Madhuri Bedi. Join us for a day of festivity for all the family, with free assorted foods from around the world, drumming taster sessions, music, dance and much more.

The Stoke Poges, Wexham and Fulmer Horticultural Society are pleased to present an illustrated talk on of Genetically Modified Plants, as part of their Autumn Table Show on Weds 18^th October at Stoke Poges School, Rogers Lane starting at 7:00 pm

Friends of Burnham Library have arranged for Slough Writers to return with another interesting series of One Act plays. This year’s event will run for two evenings on Friday and Saturday nights, 27 and 28 OCTOBER at 7:30 pm. Tickets £12 includes buffet and wine.

U3A Principles and Membership

The U3A approach to learning is “learning for pleasure”. There is no accreditation or validation and there are no assessments or qualifications to be gained. Members share their knowledge, skills and experience, learning from each other; the teachers learn and the learners teach. You can find out more abouatt the University of the Third Age at the national website www.u3a.org.uk Membership of Slough U3A is £20 per annum; if you join now, membership is valid until 31 August 2018. Subscription monies are used to pay for hire of premises, speakers’ expenses, magazines, newsletters, postage etc. during the coming year.
