MONTHLY GENERAL MEETING – JUNE 2024

Our next monthly General Meeting for all u3a members is on WED 19TH JUNE at 2pm. As usual, this will be held in St. Andrew’s Church Hall, Merton Road, Slough SL1 1QW. The small car park at the rear of the church is available for those who have difficulties with mobility. Otherwise, we ask you to please park in one of the pay-and -display car parks nearby, or in Upton Court Park (free) about 10 minutes’ walk away.

Our guest speaker is Chrissie Gains of Chrissie’s Owls -a non-profit organisation committed to the care and conservation of owls based in Oxfordshire. Chrissie’s Owls provide a rescue service for injured owls and Chrissie will be telling us all about her work and about owls in general. Please note that we are expecting her to bring along two owls to the meeting. They are likely to be a barn owl and a tawny owl.

u3a Walking group In May the walking group were joined by Windsor ramblers for a leisurely walk from Upton Court Park to Eton where they stopped for a cuppa. It was a lovely day and the group enjoyed socialising and being out in the fresh air.

OUTINGS

The coach trip to Brighton is on Friday 5th July. Bookings will be taken soon so watch your email inbox. The coach is booked and will cost £20 for members and £24 for non-members. The coach will leave Upton Court Park at 8.45 and return from Brighton at 5pm. The coach has 55 seats.

Runnymede trip

Just a reminder that the boat will sail at 2.45pm on Monday 10th June and return to Runnymede at 4.45pm. There is free parking at Runnymede boat yard. As this is a joint trip with Windsor & District ramblers there is an optional walk beforehand from the National Trust car park opposite the boat yard starting at 12 noon of 4 miles and will be back about 2pm.

Local History Group   On Monday 20th May Naomi Hudson from the Arbib Education Trust visited the u3a Local History group.   The photo shows the group looking at a display of old childhood toys and games that belong to the Museum Collection of 3 local schools in Langley.

Art Appreciation Group   visited the wonderful exhibition of Expressionist painters at Tate Modern. The exhibition is on until October. This was one of our favourites – “Tiger” painted by Franz Marc in 1912. The “beautiful striking colours” and the “coiled geometry in Tiger evokes wild animal energy”.
