SLOUGH u3a LOCAL HISTORY GROUP

The Local History group has room for new members-there is no limit to numbers. 

The group usually meets on the 3^rd Monday afternoon of the month at 2pm at St. Laurence’s Church, Upton. The church is situated by the large “Red Cow” roundabout on Upton Court Road. It is the oldest building in Slough. It has a portable toilet outside of the building with running water. If coming by car, it is best to park in Upton Court Park (where we can park for free on the 3^rd Monday of the month between 1:30 and 4:30pm with no need to register with Ringo) and then it’s a 5 minute walk to the church.

The meetings often have speakers with a presentation or the group research and present something themselves. Recent topics have been about the history of Guiding in Slough and the history of immigration to Slough. The meetings begin at 2pm and finish around 2:45pm-3pm when we all then enjoy tea, coffee, biscuits and a social time of chatting together until around 3:30pm.

St. Laurence’s Church is very hospitable. The Verger opens up for us, provides us with refreshments and stays with us for the meeting and then locks up. The church does not charge us anything for meeting there, but I encourage everyone to give a generous donation to the church at each meeting to cover the cost of the refreshments and also heating in the winter. Half of the church is used for church services and half has a museum within it. The Verger and his wife make home made jams, chutneys, craft items etc. that you can buy at the meetings.

Every few months we are usually out on a visit to a local place of interest. Our last visit was to St. Paul’s Church in Slough.

 Next meeting: 21st September-a presentation by Richard Emerson at St. Laurence’s Church at 2pm- topic “South Bucks at War,” and then 19th October-a visit to Slough Baptist Church at 2pm. Meet at the Baptist Church.

PARKING AT UPTON COURT PARK. GOOD NEWS!
It has been brought to our notice that some members are having problems with the RingGo system and may have not been attending meetings because of this.

We have been in touch with the Council's Parking Manger and she has very kindly agreed that
SLOUGH u3a MEMBERS will NOT need to register with RingGo during the following periods....
1:30 and 4:30 pm on:
The 3rd Wednesday of each month, i.e. the day of the group meetings and
The 3rd Monday of each Month i.e. the day of the Local History meetings.
This means that our members do not need to register your vehicles with RingGo on those days providing you are not in the car park outside of those hours.
The permits we use for outings remain the same
