This is now fully booked, any members still interested in going may still put their names down as it is quite common for a couple of cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances and they will then be offered any seats which become available on a first come first served basis.

Coach trip to Lewes,

With possibility of visiting the Art Wave Exhibition at Lewes, with optional walk .

The event also gives art lovers the chance to discover new work, meet artists and makers, and buy directly from them. In 2024, an estimated 53,000+ people visited Art Wave over the three weeks of the festival. Follow the trails and enjoy the diverse range of work on show including jewellery, painting, sculpture, printmaking, textiles, ceramics, metalwork and photography.

The coach Leaves Upton Court Park: 9.00am

Return journey Leaves Lewes: 4pm

Journey time 1hr 30 mins. There will not be a stop on route.

A word of warning - Lewes is hilly. The name Lewes comes from the old English hlaews meaning hill or mound.

Lewes is the county town of East Sussex. It lies on the River Ouse at the point where the river cuts through the South Downes

A traditional market town, in 1624 it was the site of the Battle of Lewes.

The town landmarks include Lewes Castle (entrance to castle and museum £10),

Lewes Priory (Guided tours at £10 can be booked at the Tourist Information on the High St),

Bull House (the former home of Thomas Paine the English born American Founding Father),

Southover Grange and Gardens.

There is also a 16th century Wealdon Hall House also known as Anne of Cleves house. There is a Lewes Town Walk with places of interest Lewes Town Walk – Travel log lewes

There is a Lewes public art trail set up by Lewes District Council and their U3A Lewes Public Art Trail - Town Trail in Lewes, Lewes - Visit Lewes

The Lewes Artwave Festival runs from the 6th to the 21st of September. A brochure will be available at the beginning of August which we will send out, to all members on the outing, as soon as we receive it.

There will be an optional 5.5mile circular walk to Kingston, led by Joyce Keegan. This walk is classed as moderate but there are some hills. Please bring a picnic lunch.
